Splice Box Prices 2026: 1U vs 2U Compared

What does a splice box really cost in 2026? Anyone comparing offers finds prices from under 100 euros to well over 3,000 euros — and in between lies not arbitrariness but a clearly explainable spectrum of height, port count, connector type and loading. This article creates transparency with real prices from our range (net, as of July 2026; F4P from the shop, DIAMOND as list price on request): from the F4P splice box of the SB series manufactured in Europe to the DIAMOND Fusion box in Swiss precision. By the end you will know when a 1U solution is enough, when 2U pays off and which price factors you can actively control in your tender.

What does a 1U splice box cost? Real shop prices 2026

The 19″ splice box with one height unit is the workhorse of FTTH roll-outs and building cabling. Our F4P SB series is manufactured in Europe and available in the current housing colours grey (GR) and black (BL). Some examples from the shop (all prices net, as of July 2026):

Model (F4P, 19″/1U) Part no. Loading Shop price net
Spleissbox SB 6 (12) LC DX OS2 APC 107002 6 × LC duplex €81.90
Spleissbox SB 12 (24) LC DX OS2 APC 107064 12 × LC duplex €129.00
Spleissbox SB 18 (24) LC DX OS2 APC 107069 18 × LC duplex €159.00
Spleissbox SB 24 (24) LC DX OM4 107072 24 × LC duplex €189.00

Overall, the F4P SB range sits between roughly 82 and 226 euros net depending on loading, connector type (LC, SC) and fibre type (OM3, OM4, OM5, OS2). That answers the question “What does a standard splice box cost?” for most projects: a low three-digit amount per height unit. You will find details on the form factor on our overview page for the 1U splice box.

DIAMOND splice boxes: Swiss precision in the price comparison

For network operators, public authorities and critical infrastructure we carry the systems of DIAMOND as an official partner — Swiss precision with E-2000 connector technology (typical insertion loss ≤ 0.1 dB). Here the price level is higher by design: high-quality E-2000 adapters, full pigtail loading and pull-out system mechanics have their equivalent value.

1U vs 2U: when does which height pay off?

The decision between 1U and 2U is at its core a calculation of port demand, rack space and price per fibre:

  • 1U is enough when up to 24 ports (up to 48 fibres with Compact RJ loading) are terminated at the site. The entry price is low, and in floor distributors or small equipment rooms every height unit counts.
  • 2U pays off as soon as 48 to 60 ports converge at one point: the price per fibre drops compared with two separate 1U boxes, fibre management stays clearer, and expansion reserves are built in. Example from the table: the 2U Future box with 48 E-2000 ports (€2,002) costs less than double the price of two fully loaded 1U boxes with 24 ports each (2 × €1,056).
  • Plan for growth: if you need 30 ports today, a 2U solution with reserve is usually cheaper than a full 1U box plus a later second purchase including renewed installation and splicing work.

The five price factors for splice boxes

1. Loading: empty, partially loaded or fully assembled

The biggest price driver is whether adapters and pigtails are included ex works. An example from the DIAMOND range: the Fusion box 1U 12-E2000 costs 452 euros net without pigtails (part no. 109005), fully loaded 1,016 euros net (part no. 109015). The difference is not margin but material and Swiss assembly work — which is saved on the construction site accordingly.

2. Connector type and polish

LC duplex loading is the affordable standard, E-2000 with integrated laser protection shutter the premium solution for operator and government networks. APC polish costs a small premium over UPC on some variants.

3. Fibre type

OM3, OM4 and OS2 variants are mostly on a par in the SB series; OM5 costs a moderate premium (example: SB 12 (24) LC DX OM5, part no. 107063, €139.00 net versus €129.00 for OM4).

4. Mechanics and features

Pull-out mechanisms, telescopic rails, removable lids and cable management increase the price but reduce installation and maintenance time over the entire service life. We work through this total-cost perspective in detail in our article on the TCO calculation for splicing systems.

5. Manufacturer and production location

Between Far East imports and European manufacturing lie worlds of difference in tolerances, spare parts supply and long-term support. What matters when comparing manufacturers is shown in our overview of splice box manufacturers in Europe. Our systems deliver manufacturer quality from Europe.

Frequently asked questions

What does a 1U splice box cost?

19″ splice boxes of the F4P SB series manufactured in Europe cost between roughly 82 and 226 euros net depending on loading (shop price, as of July 2026). DIAMOND systems with E-2000 technology in Swiss precision start at about 578 euros net and reach up to around 1,659 euros net per height unit fully loaded.

What does a 2U splice box cost?

DIAMOND 2U systems range between roughly 2,002 euros net for 48 E-2000 ports and 3,704 euros net for the Fusion box with 96 fibres in Compact RJ loading (list prices, as of July 2026 — sourcing on request). Calculated per fibre, 2U boxes with high port counts are cheaper than several individual 1U boxes.

Why are DIAMOND splice boxes more expensive than standard splice boxes?

DIAMOND manufactures in Switzerland with actively centred E-2000 connectors whose typical insertion loss is ≤ 0.1 dB, integrated laser protection and pull-out system mechanics. Add the factory-fitted full pigtail loading. The price level reflects precision manufacturing and reduced installation effort — relevant wherever loss budget and availability are critical.

Is an empty splice box without pigtails worth it?

Only if you carry out assembly and splicing work yourself anyway and your labour time is cheaper than the loading premium. Example: for the DIAMOND Fusion box 1U 12-E2000, the difference between the empty and the fully loaded variant is 564 euros net — set against pigtails, adapters and assembly time on the construction site.

Which height is right for my project?

Up to 24 ports per site, 1U is sufficient; from about 48 converging ports, 2U pays off through the lower price per fibre and simpler cable management. Plan expansion reserves: a later second box costs additional installation, a splicing call-out and rack space — usually more than the larger height today.
