The Original Swiss Connector System
The E-2000® connector system was developed by DIAMOND SA in Losone, Switzerland, and has become one of the most widely specified fibre optic interfaces in European carrier, utility, rail and data-centre networks. The Original from Losone, Switzerland
DIAMOND SA was founded in Losone (Ticino, Switzerland) in 1958 and has been active in fibre optics since 1979. The E-2000® connector is DIAMOND’s best-known development: a push-pull connector with an integrated, spring-loaded protective shutter that closes automatically when the connector is unplugged. Development and manufacturing of the connector components remain in Losone. E-2000® is a registered trademark of DIAMOND SA.
What Defines the E-2000® Connector
- 2.5 mm zirconia ferrule — the ceramic ferrule guides the fibre with the precision required for low-loss singlemode connections
- Spring-loaded laser protection shutter — closes automatically on unplugging, protecting technicians from laser emission and the end-face from dust and contact damage
- Insertion loss typically ≤ 0.1 dB per mated pair
- 500–1000 mating cycles — designed for installations that are patched and re-measured over their lifetime
- Standardised interface — the mechanical interface is defined in IEC 61754-15 (LSH)
- Push-pull latching — the connector locks positively in the coupling and releases only via the latch, not by cable pull

Connector and Coupling Programme

Where the E-2000® System Is Specified
The combination of protective shutter, low insertion loss and positive latching has made the E-2000® interface a frequent requirement in networks where connections are patched, measured and documented over long service lives:
- Carrier and FTTH networks — central offices, PoPs and distribution frames with high port counts
- Municipal utilities — city networks in which splice boxes are extended in stages over years
- Industrial and energy infrastructure — environments where the closed shutter protects end-faces between service visits
- Data centres and campus networks — backbones where return loss and repeatable measurements matter

Original vs. LSH-Compatible Connectors

The mechanical interface of the E-2000® connector is standardised as LSH in IEC 61754-15. Because the interface itself is an open standard, several manufacturers offer LSH-compatible connectors. “E-2000”, by contrast, is a registered trademark of DIAMOND SA and designates the original product from Losone.
For tenders and procurement this has a practical consequence: a specification that only references “LSH” or “IEC 61754-15” permits any standard-compliant connector. If the original is required, the manufacturer and product designation must be named explicitly.
Independent of the manufacturer, these points are worth checking in any specification:
- Interface — compliance with IEC 61754-15 stated explicitly
- Manufacturer designation — original E-2000® (DIAMOND SA) or LSH-compatible product, named as such
- Ferrule specification — material and geometry data provided
- Optical performance — insertion and return loss with measurement documentation, not just data-sheet values
- Mating-cycle rating — stated and appropriate for the planned service life
